Look Slimmer and More Proportional with the Help of a Good Tailor

This top fits in the bust, but is too large in the mid-section. I usually need to size up in tops due to the shoulders and bust, but then this leaves excess room in the middle. Waist definition is super important and for many of us these cute flowy styles can be tricky or impossible to wear. This style can be altered to make it more flattering to my body type by taking in the excess in the middle, allowing me to wear this style confidently.

Fit is More Important than You Think

So many people underestimate the importance of fit.  You can buy the cutest clothes, but if they fit like crap they won't look so cute.

A Tailor Can Help

I'm not just talking about hemming a pair of pants. I'm referring to how well the clothes fit (and flatter) your proportions. I highly recommend finding a good tailor to make sure your clothes fit your body in the most flattering way.

Alterations costs can add up quickly, so you'll only want to alter those classic "investment pieces" that you'll wear for a long time.  When you find less expensive, trendy items that you absolutely love, then by all means get those tailored too - but you just need to be selective or it will get really expensive very fast.

The Right Fit Will Make You Look Slimmer

Most of us don't have perfect proportions, so we often need to size up to accommodate larger areas (this can be shoulders, bust, waist, hips, etc.).  If we don't size up, the item is too small.  But when we do, it fits in one place but is too large (and frumpy) in other areas.  This can make you look larger in those areas where the clothing is too baggy.  A tailor can fix this and make your clothes look like they were made just for you.  The final result will make you look more evenly proportioned, and yes, slimmer!😉

Have a Look in Your Closet

Think of the items in your closet that feel a little too big, or that fit one area of your body but are too large elsewhere.  If these are items that you think you'll wear for years to come, or if they're items you really love, then gather them up and bring them to a tailor.  You'll be amazed how much better you'll look in your clothes!
